Owen Jones on the need for local councils to co-ordinate action to resist cuts

Owen Jones in The Independent on Sunday outlines some of the cuts facing local authorities throughout the country. These could mean that they can’t meet some of their statutory responsibilities.

Given the democratic mandate that local councils possess, they are best-placed to articulate local resistance to the cuts agenda coming from Whitehall. He advocates a national conference to co-ordinate how local councils respond to these threats to the services they were elected to protect.
