83% vote “Yes” in UCATT strike ballot

UCATT, which represents many building workers in local authorities, the wider public sector and contractors, has given an emphatic 83% “Yes” vote in their pensions ballot. They will be joining millions of other workers who will be taking part in industrial action on 30th November.

The construction industry has also seen an upsurge in union activity on another front, as electricians are trying hard to stop the employers imposing pay cuts and deskilling on them. Workers picketed the Farringdon Crown House building site today, as the management has refused to recognise their union (Unite). We must recognise that all workers – whether public sector or private sector; blue-collar or white-collar – face similar problems at the hands of their employers, and need to work together in their trade unions to tackle them.
