France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Albania, India – all around the world protests against austerity and for a better society are taking place – and it’s the same system that we face, with politicians and bosses telling us that there isn’t enough money for services, for pay or for any of the things we need for a decent life.
Despite having a new prime minister, we are getting the same old messages about the upcoming budget – that we need to be ready for ‘difficult decisions’. We have to say, difficult for who? There are plenty of rich people, there’s always money for war and militarism so the decisions don’t seem very difficult for them, only for us. So it’s been good that there have been some initiatives against austerity and plans to get us organised, starting with a march on the eve of the budget.
Put the date in your diary and join us with the Camden UNISON banner against austerity!
The restructures and cuts that we face here in Camden are directly linked to government austerity and not funding public services like the ones we provide. So we need to both organise and fight for our services and jobs, and mobilise to campaign for more funding. If you want to discuss how to get organised around restructures, email unison@camden.gov.uk and also join us on the protest above.
There is a full Council meeting on Monday 16 November that we are submitting a deputation to about cuts to services and jobs.
