Under pressure from a powerful public campaign, the mayor of London and commissioner of the London Fire Brigade yesterday agreed to make concessions in their planned cuts. Ten stations remain under threat; the number of job losses has increased; and there are fresh proposals to downgrade cover provided by the brigade’s fleet of Fire Rescue Units. It is more important than ever that firefighters and the public attend next week’s march and rally against these dangerous and reckless cuts.
