Camden UNISON wins qualifications payments for schools members

SwissCamden UNISON has won payments of £1500 per worker for the gaining of level 2 qualifications in maths and English for dozens of workers at Swiss Cottage school.

Management at Swiss Cottage school introduced a new policy, that they wanted all staff and support staff to have at least a level 2 qualification in maths and English.

However, they did not provide the training for the qualifications in work time, as is required by the green book of national terms and conditions for council workers.

So Camden UNISON raised this and eventually negotiated an agreement of a payment of £750 per qualification for each of the up to 160 support staff at the school.

Our campaign at the school continues, however, as management have indicated their intention to dismiss any workers who do not gain these qualifications by the end of the school year, which we are opposing.
