Lobby of Islington Town Hall on 10th October

Camden UNISON will be lending its support to our sister branch in Islington, which has called a protest lobby outside Islington Town Hall (Upper Street, N1, nearest Tube stations: Angel and Highbury & Islington) for this Thursday evening (10 October) over the mounting number of redundancies across the Labour-controlled borough.

Thus far, well over 400 Islington staff have faced redundancy since Spring 2010, yet the Council’s spending on agency staff and consultants appears to be unchecked. The Council has spent in excess of £22 million on agency staffing over the same period and one directorate alone has shelled more than £500,000 on agency workers just in the past three months. The lobby is due to start at 6.00 PM and also enjoys the support of the local GMB branch and Islington Hands Off Our Public Services.
