Demonstrate against NHS cuts and fire station cuts

The branch is supporting two important demonstrations that are coming up soon:

  • Saturday 18 May, Defend London’s NHS: Save our hospitals & say no to privatisation. Main march assembles from 12 noon at Concert Hall Approach, Belvedere Road (nearest Tube: Waterloo). Map – http://goo.gl/maps/Lg6MT. Supporters of the ‘Defend the Whittington Hospital Campaign’ will be gathering at 11.00 outside the hospital in Archway to travel together. The march on Saturday will cross to the north bank of the Thames and proceed past the Department of Health and the Houses of Parliament
  •     Saturday 25 May, Stop the Closure of Belsize Fire Station: Assemble from 11.30 AM at Oriel Place, NW3 (nearest Tube: Hampstead; Overground: Hampstead Heath). Belsize is one of 12 fire stations across London threatened with closure under plans pursued by Mayor Boris Johnson, which also threaten the removal of 18 appliances and the axing of more than 500 firefighters’ jobs. The branch is also encouraging members who live in the borough to attend the consultation meeting over the proposed cuts on Thursday 30 May at 7.00 PM in the London Irish Centre, 50-52 Camden Square, NW1 and/or the Islington meeting on Tuesday 28 May, 7.00 PM, Islington Town Hall, Upper Street, N1, which will focus on the threat to Clerkenwell
